The Throat Chakra in Reiki Healing

The throat chakra is the fifth chakra. The throat chakra is located between the inner collarbone and the larynx of the throat. The neck, jaw, larynx, esophagus, and thyroid are all influenced by throat chakra energy.  Your breath, voice, and language skills rely on the functioning of this chakra.  Located where it is, the throat charka connects upper and lower chakras and, therefore, connects feelings and thoughts.

Physically, problems with the throat chakra may contribute to such things as tonsillitis, neck and shoulder pain, and dental problems.  When the throat chakra is weak or its energy is blocked, the person is believed to experience a range of communication difficulties.  At one end of the continuum, they may suffer from significant speech impediments.  At the other end of the continuum, they may simply have difficulty putting their feelings into words.   All such problems are likely to have an adverse effect on how the person communicates with others.

When Reiki practitioners are working on the throat chakra, they will first place their hands gently around the throat .  For females, it is said that the energy of the chakra can be cleared by rotating left, and for males, it can be cleared by rotating right.  Many practitioners believe that clearing the throat chakra will help heal the thyroid and parathyroid glands.

Some Reiki practitioners use Reiki toning while clearing the throat chakra. The mantra that is used in relation to clearing the throat chakra is the "ham" (pronounced "hang") sound. This helps to awaken the flow of energy within the throat chakra.   Still other Reiki healers will make use of gemstones.  Recommended gemstones include aquamarine, and blue topaz.  While the person is lying flat, aquamarine or blue topaz can be gently placed on the persons’ throat chakra (in the hollow of the neck).  As with the other chakras, certain aromas are thought to help clear energy blockages. Eucalyptus and peppermint are among the aromas used for this purpose.

By combining methods of chakra clearing with Reiki healing, practitioners believe they are enhancing both techniques.  The classic Reiki hand positions include the locations of the various chakras.  By channeling Reiki energy into these locations the entire system of energy flow is said to be improved.
