The Solar Plexus Chakra in Reiki Healing

The solar plexus chakra is the third chakra.  It may be referred to as the "spleen chakra", the "navel chakra", "stomach chakra", or "manipura chakra".  It is located below the rib cage, between the tip of the sternum and the navel.  The energy of this chakra plays an important role in the functioning of the digestive system, the liver, the spleen, gallbladder, and pancreas.  In addition, this chakra is said to be a reservoir of energy that can be distributed throughout the entire body.  Hence, blockages and weakness in the solar plexus chakra can have profound consequences for all of the other chakras.  Again, blockages of are related to both physical and psychological disturbances.

As you might guess, energy blockages in the solar plexus chakra are associated with stomachaches, digestive disorders, heartburn, and eating disorders.  It is said that a well-functioning solar plexus chakra is essential to the development of a mature personality.  Blockages are thought to impair movement toward this maturity.  With a weakly functioning solar plexus chakra, the person is said to experience a great deal of insecurity, problems with authority, and low self-esteem.  The insecurity may be reflected in insomnia and nightmares

Because the solar plexus distributes energy throughout the body, healers will generally work on it before trying to clear the other chakras.  The energy released when the solar plexus chakra is cleared, may take care of difficulties in other chakras.  Reiki practitioners who work with chakras will usually place their hands above the navel to trigger this energy center. For females, they will rotate left and with males they will rotate right. This will help in clearing the blocked energies.  If something emotional or traumatic has happened to the client, this is usually where the blocked energies will be.

A Reiki practitioner may also use the mantra, "ram" (pronounced "rang').  This is said to send extra vibrations through the body and helps to clear the solar plexus area.  Some Reiki healers will also use aromas of lavender and lemon to clear this area.  Gemstones may also be used in this process, too. Tiger’s eye, yellow jasper, and citrine have all been used.  All of these gemstones are thought to help with healing of the solar plexus through their complimentary universal energies.
