The Sacral Chakra in Reiki Healing

The sacral chakra is the second chakra.  The sacral chakra is said to be located just below the navel (about the width of two fingers below the navel). Sensitive practitioners may be able see the orange-colored aura associated with this chakra.  According to proponents of chakra healing, energy from the second chakra governs the sexual organs and the the reproductive system.  The sacral chakra is also said to be involved in the functioning of the bladder, kidneys, and circulatory system. Blockages of energy in the sacral chakra are related to both physical and psychological disturbances.

Energy blockages in the sacral chakra may manifest themselves in a variety of physical problems.  Among other things, prostrate disorders, lower back pain, menstrual pain, bladder infections, and kidney stones have been ascribed to blockages in the sacral chakra.  Psychologically, energy from the sacral chakra is said to influence our outlook on life.  Blockages here are thought to reduce our zest for life. Blockages may may further manifest themselves as a reduced sensuality, lower levels of creativity, increased anxiety, and poor self-esteem.

Many Reiki practitioners include some form of chakra healing in their healing sessions.  When they begin to unblock and heal the sacral chakra, they will place their hands near the sacrum. This may be done either on the front or the back of the person. With females, they will unblock this area by rotating their hands to the right. With males, they will rotate their hands to the left . As with other chakras, a practitioner may also choose to form a ball of Reiki energy and insert it into the sacral chakra.

Some practitioners may choose to use a particular mantra as part of the process of clearing the sacral chakra.  The mantra chosen will likely intone a "vam" sound (pronounced "vang"). Other practitioners, may choose to use aromatherapy when clearing out this chakra. Ylang-ylang oil and sandalwood are two recommended aromas to use.  In addition to mantras and aromas, some practitioners use gemstones.  Golden topaz and coral are among the gemstones that have been used to help clear this chakra.

When the Reiki healing session is finished, the sacral chakra should be open to universal energies.  Universal life energy should flow more freely throughout the body.  According to proponents of combining Reiki and chakra healing, the body will be better able to heal itself.  Both physical and psychological problems associated with the sacral chakra will be reduced as this healing takes place.
