Learn Reiki: Your Initial Training Session

What to Expect in a Reiki Training Session

What happens during Reiki training?  What can you you expect?  If you have decided to attend a Reiki training session, you probably have a lot of questions and perhaps a few concerns.  The fact of the matter is, attending your initial Reiki training session can be a little intimidating.  But, it does not have to be.  Most Reiki training sessions follow a particular pattern.  If you understand this pattern, or structure, your concerns will fall away.  You will be able to attend your training session anxiety free and ready to learn.

When you arrive at a Reiki training session, the first thing you will notice is that there is an experienced healer or trainer in charge of the class. Often times, two healers will be there, one of whom will act as an assistant to the primary teacher. Often this is needed to carryout various demonstrations.  It allow the assistant to learn more fully teaching methods before they begin their own Reiki class.

Usually, the beginning of a Reiki training session will consist of lectures and discussion.  This may be followed some type of practice. The teachers will make sure that you understand each new concept or technique before going onto to something else.  The practice will also not be strenuous or pressured. The facilitators in Reiki will understand that each person is different in terms of their intuition and acceptance.  Each will have a different amount of healing to go through.  As much time needed will be given for each individual.

In preparation for your Reiki session, there are several things that you should consider. You should know that by the end of the initial session, you will receive a full treatment by the instructor.  Therefore, before you even go to class, make sure that you are comfortable with the instructor.  Also, be sure wear comfortable clothing. Wearing restrictive clothes, such as tight jeans will cause some problems when going to one of these sessions. You will be moving around as you practice.  In addition, traditional seating may not be provided.  If you are sure that the seating will not be traditional, you may want to bring extra cushioning for sitting on the floor. Your comfort is important when learning Reiki.

It is also recommended that you avoid nicotine and caffeine the day before you attend the first session. Reiki experts think that these substances cause less clarity and may make it more difficult to sense the universal energies that move through you.  More than one student has reported problems obtaining a full understanding and appreciation of Reiki training when nicotine or caffeine has been in their systems.

While attending the class, take some time to learn more about your classmates.  This will make the entire experience more comfortable.  You will find that your classmates will be important contributors to your own learning.  And, they may become friends and colleagues in the future.

After you have gone through the first session (or day) of Reiki, you will find that the process of going to further training becomes much easier. You will also begin to feel a difference in the energies that are moving through your body.  Experts recommend that you drink a lot of water after a session.  This is said to help your body to adjust to the flow of energy that you will experience.
