The Heart Chakra in Reiki Healing

The fourth chakra is the heart chakra.  The heart chakra is located at the level of the physical heart, but it is located in the center of the chest, rather than on the left.  The energy of the heart chakra influences the heart, lungs, thymus, blood and circulation, skin and touch.  In addition, it plays a significant role in circulating energy throughout the body.  The heart chakra is said to connect the three lower chakras with the higher chakras.  Because of this, many Reiki practitioners think it is especially important to open up the heart chakra for healing.

Energy blockages in the heart chakra are thought to be related to elevated blood pressure, heart arrhythmia, skin problems, respiratory problems, and allergies. Psychologically, energy blockages manifest themselves as interpersonal difficulties. People with blockages have difficulty connecting with others. They cannot "give their heart" to others.  As a result, they may be very lonely.  They may feel isolated and are often perceived as distant and cold.

When a Reiki practitioner is focusing on the heart chakra, they will place the hands lightly on the center of the chest. With females, they will rotate their hands right, and with males, the rotation will be left. This will help to clear the heart chakra and allow for universal energies to go in through this portal. If there are major blockages in the heart chakra, Reiki healers may choose to use other methods as well.

The chant that is used awaken and clear the heart chakra is the mantra "yam" (pronounced "yang")’. The gemstones that carry the right type of universal energy for the heart chakra include emerald, rose quartz, and green jade. These gemstones can be placed at the heart center when performing Reiki.  Finally, aromas may be used to connect to the heart chakra.  Rose and Jasmine are often recommended.

By opening and clearing the heart chakra, the body, mind, and spirit will have an better chance of self healing.  As universal life energy radiates throughout the body, the person is said to experience an enhanced form of Reiki healing.
